    How every sit works

    • Sits are optional and short — about 5 minutes. Your child can get up any time.
    • Feet on a footstool, knees a little higher than hips, leaning slightly forward.
    • No commentary on results: no asking "did you go?", no praise or disappointment about what happens.
    • Keep it boring and kind: a book, a song, or quiet company. No screens as a deal for sitting.
    • If your child says no, say "okay" and try at the next planned sit.

    How to use your routine

The routine works because it's boring and predictable — not because anything has to happen during a sit.

    1. Set up the bathroom once

A footstool that lets knees rise above hips, a small seat insert if needed, and a basket of books. Then leave it set up.
    2. Offer the sits, then let go

"It's sitting time — want a book?" If your child says no, say "okay" and offer again at the next planned sit.
    3. Keep everyone on the same plan

Print it, or send the text version to whoever covers meals. The Caregiver Handoff sheet picks this routine up automatically.

When to contact your child's pediatrician

Contact your child's pediatrician promptly if you notice any of these.

    • No bowel movement for 5 or more days
    • Blood in the stool or on the toilet paper
    • Vomiting, fever, or a swollen or very painful belly
    • Stool leaking or soiling in a child who was previously trained
    • Weight loss, poor appetite, or a child who seems unwell
    • Pain or distress that is getting worse rather than better
    • Anything that worries you — you know your child best

Poop Peace is educational. It does not diagnose or treat. If you are worried about your child, contact their pediatrician or local emergency services.
