    Short answer

What is the Poop Refusal Scripts for Parents?

The Poop Refusal Scripts sheet is a printable set of word-for-word things to say in eight common moments: when it's time to sit, when your child refuses, when they're clenching or holding, when they ask for a diaper, when they're scared or crying, after an accident, when they succeed even a little, and when talking to a partner or relative. Each script comes with what to stop saying and why.

    What's on the sheet

    • Eight moments, each with two or three short scripts you can say as written
    • 'Instead of…' lines: the common phrases that raise pressure, and what to replace them with
    • A one-line 'why it works' for each moment, so you can improvise in the same spirit
    • A script for the partner or grandparent conversation, so the adults stay on the same page

    How to use it

    1. Read it once when you're calm, not mid-standoff. Pick the two moments that happen most in your house.

    2. Say the scripts in your own voice. The exact words matter less than the message: no demand, no deadline, I'm here.

    3. Stick the sheet inside a cupboard door in the bathroom where you'll see it and your child won't.

    4. Share the partner script with anyone who cares for your child so the responses match.

    5. When a script lands well, write down what you said. Your own version is the one you'll remember.
